  • Significance: Lachryma Montis (Latin from Indian name "Weeping Mountain"), the final home of Mariano Guadelupe Vallejo, General of the Mexican Army, founder of Pueblo de Sonoma in 1835, owner of extensive ranch lands (66,622 acres), later under American rule he was a member of the California Constitutional Convention, 1849, and a State Senator 1850. This was the home of his large family and continued to be his residence until his death in 1890. The two-story wood frame house with its steep gables, decorative barge boards, pointed-arch window, and hood moulds is a fine example of the Victorian Gothic. In 1933 the house and grounds became California State Historical Monument No. 4. The house was built in 1851 to 1853.
