English: Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class David R. Wolf, assistant lead petty officer, battalion aid station, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, salutes Medal of Honor recipient, retired Col. Jay R. Vargas, after Wolf received his second Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as the HMCS Walter S. “Doc” Gorsage Leadership Award, during a ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 21, 2014. Vargas, who earned distinction while serving with 2nd Bn., 4th Marines in Vietnam, returned to his old battalion to congratulate the top performers. Wolf, a 27-year-old native of Grand Haven, Mich., and a 2004 graduate of Grand Haven High School, serves alongside infantrymen. He is trained to give first aid to wounded personnel on the battlefield, and he also cares for the health and welfare of each Marine in his unit. Wolf’s deployments include Afghanistan and Okinawa, Japan. Wolf is also a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Jacob H.
