h aridge of wheat stubble, and with the decoys inplace, is ready for use. The hunter faces in the direction from whichthe birds are expected. The geese spend the nighton some large body of water, often at a great dis-tance from the wheat fields. They fly to the feed-ing ground, and after getting their fill, return to theirresting grounds. The decoys used in this kind ofshooting are flat, and cut out of sheet metal of somekind. As the blinds are too small to admit of hold-ing many dead geese, they are usually staked out assoon as shot, and answer for decoya. This method of using dead birds as decoysmay be employed in duck shooting as well as ingoose shooting. A small stick sharpened or split at one end isall that is necessary. Take the sharpened end and push through theducks head from undemeath; shove the other endinto the ground until the duck assumes a naturalpose. If there is water, the stick must be longer;and if a split stick is used, the ducks head isinserted into the opening. 58
