He was a little man, and he limped in hiswalk. In the stillness of the court Ralph could almost hear thewoman breathe. They were quarreling, the two men — you heard what theysaid ? said counsel, breaking silence. Its not true, cried the witness, in a hurried manner, /heard nothing. This is no suborned witness, my lords, said counsel, in acold voice, and with a freezing smile. Well, woman ? * The tall man leaped off his horse, and there was a struggle.
