the central canal of the spinal cord. Theyare all lined with columnar ciliated epithelium, beneath which isa development of neuroglia. This lining so formed is called theependyma of the ventricles. Where the superior peduncles of thecerebellum are approaching each other at the upper part of thefourth ventricle, the interval between them is bridged over by athin layer of grey matter called the valve of Vieussens. The portions of the central nervous system are thus classi-fied :— (i.) Cerebral hemispheres with the corpora striata, developedfrom the cerebral vesicles—and enclosing the lateral ventricles. CH.
