Movement — Sweep the arms directly upward and back-ward as far as possible, as shown in Fig. 68, bendingthe head and body backward, and carrying the armsaround and downward in a circle, until the fingerstouch in front of the body as in the first position.Kepeat the movement. The exercise may be in-creased in its severity by stepping back alternatelywith the right and left legs. Times — 10 — 20 — 30. Eate per minute, 12 — 16 —20. Parts Affected — Muscles of the shoulders, upper chest,and abdomen, as well as the extensors and flexors ofthe head, and the muscles of the scapulae that holdthe shoulders back. 232

Caution — In this exercise throw the weight of the bodyon to the advanced leg, and try and maintain pertecrpoise and balance throughout the entire movement.
