This is proven by the remains of birds, veryrecently found, which have teeth, showing the connection betweenthe reptile and the bird kingdom. These remains supply what haslong been regarded as the missing link. The winged reptile,under varying conditions, changed its character entirely; naturesupplied it with hair, and it became a bat, and under other con-ditions it acquired feathers.
