Hindu Chela, Jammu, ca.1875-ca.1940
Photograph of a Hindu Chela, or disciple or student of Hindu. The Chela, a young man, is holding a gold object in one hand. A temple is visible in the background.; This belongs to a series of Church of Scotland Foreign Missions Committee lantern slides relating to Jammu City, which is also known as the "City of Temples". A mission station occupied by Church of Scotland missionaries was founded here in the late 19th/early 20th century. Jammu is also one of the three administrative divisions within Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state in India.
