The men will be assigned as follows: 98 men to Com-pany A, 98 men to Company B, 98 men to Company C,and 90 men to Company D, to be assigned by seniorofficer. The Non-Commissioned StafT will be retained. By order ofBrevet Major-General Emory, Duncan L. Walker, A. A. G. 196 NINTH REGIMENT CONN. VOL. INFANTRY. Under command of Captain Healy, the Ninth Bat-tahon, thus organized, bore a very conspicuous part inthe battle of Cedar Creek, October 19, 1864, its liag beingthe first planted on the recaptured works of the enem>.In this desperate action the Ninth lost thirty men inkilled and wounded. Col. Cahill, Lieut. Col. Fitz Gibbon, Major Frye, Ad-jutant Kattenstroth, Quartermaster Fitz Gibbon, SurgeonGallagher and other officers of the regiment were honor-ably discharged Oct. 26, 1864, their term of service hav-ing expired.

BIRGE THANKS THEBATTALION FOR ITS GALLANT WORK—THE COMMANDAT SAVANNAH. GA.—THE MUSTER OUT AND RETURNHOME—CASUALTIES OF REGIMENT AND BATTALIONDURING THE WAR. CAPT. John G. Healy, senior captain of the NinthBattalion, C. V., was made lieutenant colonel Dec.I, 1864. He commanded the Battalion throughout itswhole period of service, and was mustered out with thecommand, Aug-. 3, 1865. The Battalion rendered valiantservice and was one of the most efficient of the veteranorganizations. It participated in the battle of CedarCreek, Va., Oct. 19, 1864, and was among the commandsto welcome Sheridan as he dashed along on his famousride from Winchester.
