Title |
Horse-and-Rider BROOCH |
||
Description |
English: Copper-alloy zoomorphic brooch depicting a horse and rider. The horse, which is galloping to the right is well defined with a small head with ears pricked, a dot for the eye, a band across the forehead and an open mouth. The mane is upright and is represented by a series of vertical ridges. The tail is docked and the legs are incomplete. The body was divided into four zones divided by the rider's leg and two adjoining semi-circular fields between the neck and foreleg. The field either side of the rider's leg retain much bright blue enamel. The edge representing the lower body has a series of closely-set transverse incised lines. The male rider has a disproportionately large head with short hair, a beard and a large lentoid eye with corresponding long eyebrow. He holds a whip in his right hand and his right leg extends below the horse's girth. Single pierced lug on reverse for missing pin. Heavy iron corrosion from axis bar around the lug. |
