Black and white photograph
Coal cars and miners outside the City Mine, also known as the Lethbridge City Mine, No. 10 or City No. 1 Mine. The mine, which was just north of the present Water Treatment Plant, was owned and operated by the City of Lethbridge from June 1909 until it was formally abandoned in October 1941. Total production of coal was 345,378 metric tons, most of which was used in the municipally-owned power plant to generate electricity. Coal was also supplied to city schools, the fire halls and other municipal buildings, as well as to needy families as required.
