l events, whichare considered as affording delightful illustrations of the heroicself-devotion of the female heart; of the courage and enthusiasmwith which a woman will encounter danger for a beloved object.Had the journey of Tshusick been undertaken, like those alludedto, to save a parent or a sister, or even been induced by thecircumstances which she alleged, it would have formed a touchingincident in the history of woman, little inferior to any which haveever been related. She came far, and endured much ; emergingfrom the lowest rank in society, she found favor in the highest,and achieved, for the base purpose of plunder, the success whichwould have immortalized her name, had it been obtained in avirtuous cause. This remarkable woman is still living, and, though broken byyears, exhibits the same active and intriguing spirit which distin-guished her youth. She is well known on the frontier; but,when we last heard of her, passed under a different name fromthat which we have recorded.

He uses hispower with moderation, and the white men who have visited hiscountry all bear testimony to his uniform fair dealing, hospitality,and friendship. He is a good warrior, and has never failed toeffect the objects which he has attempted; being distinguishedrather by the common sense and sagacity which secure success,than by the brilliancy of his achievements.
