BetweenZiegenbalgs arrival in Southern India and the present vast net-work of missions now extending over the country, there lies aperiod of less than two centuries of consecrated labor. The tri-umph is great, and there is abundant ground for encouragementthat the time is not far distant when the gospel will reach everypart of India. Dearth of Missionary Labor. There is danger, however, that these great achievements beoverestimated. There are immense stretches of Indian territorywhich have not been reached, or, if reached at all, have been butscantily cultivated. We may take some examples in Bengal.Up to 1881 the district of Unao, with nine hundred thousandpeople, had never a missionary.
