PER 100,000 POPULATION. The following maps are based upon the ratios given In Table 3. In Map 1 the states are graded with reference to the ratio of insane enumerated in hospitals onJanuary 1,1910, per 100,000 population; and in Map 2, with reference to the ratio of insane admitted in the year 1910. The numbers in the legend in the lower left-hand corner of each map are the numbers per 100,000 population. Thus in the first map the states left unshaded are those in which there were less than 100 Insane inhospitals to 100.000 population, and at the other extreme are the states in which the ratio was over 300 per 100,000 population. In the second map the unshaded statesare those in which the number of insane admitted to hospitals in the year 1910 was less than 40 to 100,000 population, while the states in black represent those in whichthe ratio of admissions per 100,000 population was over 100.
