As is often the case with Butterflies, the under surface ofPa^nlio Emathion gives no indication jof the colours whichadorn the lower surface. Above, the wings are black, with narrow lines of grey follow-ing the nervures, and widening gradually towards the edges.The under surface of the upper pair of wings is coloured muchafter the same manner, but that of the lower pair is almoststartlingly different from the plain black and grey of the uppersurface. The greater part of the wing is velvet black, and round PLATE XI.
