English: An incomplete Iron Age zoomorphic La Téne I type brooch (400 BC-200 BC).

The pin and spring are missing.

At the head of the brooch there is a small portion of the spring which expands in width and thickness to form the bow. The bow is bulbous and strongly arched in side profile, maximum width: 11.5mm; maximum thickness: 9.6mm. At the front it is convex and the rear is slightly convex (almost flat). From about mid-way along its length it tapers inwards towards a complete catch-plate projecting to the right. Beyond the catch-plate, the foot turns up and makes contact with the front of the bow. This upward projecting part has an integral disc. Between the disc and the bow are three transverse grooves. It is probable that the disc represents an animal's head and the grooves may emulate a nose (snout) or beak.

The surface has a rich brown shiny patina with areas of corrosion, some of which is active. At the rear of the bow there are several transverse striations which may be related to fettling.
