editDescriptionJ. and P. Coat's thread trade cards (20736214736).jpg |
English: Series of illustrated trade cards and caricatures for J. & P. Coat's thread, this one entitled, "We never fade!" Illustrations depict men, women and children performing a variety of activities with J. & P. Coat's best six cord thread, including this African American boy sitting on a spool, with black crows at his feet, pointing to a frowning anthropomorphic sun. Verso advertises "Fast Black Spool Cotton," discusses the"pure, rich deep black" of dying of textile fabric, and states at the end, "Intelligent people do not wash their clothes in acid baths."
