Description
English: Colonel Patrick Garman, center, commander of the 1st Area Medical Laboratory, out of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., discusses the attributes of a Sinoe County hospital that makes it a potential site for a new Army medical lab, with the rest of the Army lab reconnaissance team for Joint Forces Command – United Assistance, Liberia, Dec. 4, 2014. The team’s mission for the day was to survey and assess potential sites for a new Army medical laboratory in Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia. When choosing a site, 1st AML Soldiers typically look for a solid structure, with running water, electricity and plumbing, while also being removed from daily traffic of non-laboratory workers. Operation United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa.
