Description
English: John T Sokell was the founder of Sokell's shop in Driffield. This photograph, taken in a professional studio, shows him posing next to his penny farthing racing bicycle. Sokell won a gold medal (preserved at East Riding Archives: ref DDX1375/2) for the Driffield 1882 bicycle race, engraved ‘First prize. One mile bicycle race, Driffield July 28 1882’.
