Cette collection brillait non-seulement sous le rapportdu choix des plantes, mais aussi sous celui dune culture irréprocha-ble; nous citerons particulièrement une fort belle plante grimpante,à amples feuilles cordiformes dun vert cuivré, à centre teinté depourpre brunâtre; cette plante ayant pour nom Dioscorea discolorportait en elle un air de vigoureuse santé qui faisait plaisir à.voir ;les amateurs apprendront avec plaisir quelle se cultive facilementen serre chaude et également bien en serre froide. Le deuxième prix (médaille dargent) est accordé à M. Dillen, etle troisième prix, à M. le chevalier John de Knyff. ( La fin au prochain numéjo. )

Le genre Pétunia, fondé par L. de Jussieu en 1805, ap-partient à la famille naturelle des Solanées et à la Pentan-drie Monogynie de Linné; il ne renferme que quatre oucinq espèces propres à lAmérique australe, parmi lesquellesle Pétunia nyctaglniflora (L. de Jussieu),découvert à laPlata vers la fin du siècle dernier, et le Pétunia violacea,natif des mêmes contrées, mais seulement introduit en 1851,par M. Tweedie, jouent un rôle important en horticulture.Cest en effet à ces deux types que lon doit le grand nombrede belles variétés que le commerce horticole a offertes auxamateurs depuis quelques années.
