Afcenfionof ATTEMPTING to illuHrate the decompofition of ful- irrenat*^ P^^retted hydrogen gas, I filled a bottle with it, capable ofholding about 18oz. of water. Having done this, I pouredinto it at once, ^ of an ounce of nitrous acid ; a hifling noifetook place, and much red vapour was di(engaged» which inorder not to molefl: my auditors, I confined in the bottle, bycorking it. No fooner had this been accompliflied, the mix-ture exploded with a loud report, accompanied with a blueflame+.
