astly, syphilisis more frequently unilateral and cir-cumscribed than tuberculosis. I have not been able to find in theliterature that spirochaetae have beendemonstrated in the lung tissue. InDArcy Powers System of Syphilisa case is reported in which spirochaetaewere found in the sputum, but, whenone considers all the spirochaetae to befound in the mouth one realizes howextremely difficult it would be to dif-ferentiate it. PrognosisIf the disease is not recognized intime the emaciation will becomemarked, lesions in other viscera willoccur, and death may result from gen-eral weakness or from complications. It is surprising how much can be done, however, even in markedly enfeebledpatients by prompt anti-syphilitic treat-ment. Pulmonary lues lessens the resistanceof a patient and renders him moreliable to tuberculous infection. Whentuberculosis is added to an active, viru-lent syphilis the tuberculosis pursues
