Title |
KENT-8BBC43. Oval 'shield-on-tongue' buckle, 6th century AD. Drawn by Dominic Andrews. |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy oval 'shield-on-tongue' buckle. The buckle is heavily corroded, and the strap bar is missing, the tongue being found nearby the loop. Both the loop and tongue retain traces of silver plating, as well as sections of iron corrosion that may indicate the buckle was deposited in contact with an iron object. This may indicate that the find derives from a disturbed burial. Shield-on-tongue buckles date to the 6th century AD. |
