Title |
kidney-shaped, single-loop buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy single-loop, kidney-shaped buckle with engraved rouletted oblique lines which form a wave pattern on the front edge. The frame has a flat base and a convex profile in section, apart from where it dips for the pin rest. The pin is also cast and tapers to a point from its wider hinge surrounding the narrowed pin bar. Judging from the delicate detail on this buckle, it was probably used for personal dress. The length of the frame is 39 mm and the width is 21.7 mm and the thickness is 3.3 mm. The length of the pin bar is 30 mm and its diameter 3 mm. The pin is 23 mm long and 3.6 mm wide and 2.4 mm thick. The buckle weighs 7.58g.Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on page 30, No.173, which is dated to c.1350-1500. |
