These nerve fibres are all connected withganglion cells, from each of which two or more fine fibres proceed indifferent directions, establishing connections between the cells of theseand other ganglia and peripheral parts, figs. 20, 21. These anatomicalresearches must necessarily lead to important conclusions with refer-ence to the physiological changes taking place in the kidney in health,and the pathological phenomena occurring in disease. The investigation of the distribution of the nerve fibres in themammalian kidney is far more difficult, but by comparing the appear-ances observed in this organ with those in tissues in which the arrange-ment of the nerves can be positively demonstrated, we may learn manyimportant things, and be led to an interpretation which I think may be STRUCTURE Ob THS KIDNEY.
