Title |
LANCUM-76F1B1: Post-medieval or early modern unidentified token/unidentified object |
||
Description |
English: Cast cu-alloy token, probably made from a re-used coin or metal disc, dating from the later post-medieval or early modern period, i.e. c. 1700-1900. The disc was very worn when it was re-worked into a token and there was a strong possibility that it had been a Roman as or dupondius. However, Dr D Shotter had a look at the token and couldn't identify it as a Roman coin. Furthermore, the disc is too thick to have been a post-medieval or early modern coin. It now seems more likely that it just started out as a flat piece of casting residue which was then stamped and turned into a token. The two small stamps look a little like initials or Roman numerals, but unfortunately, nothing further about them can be said. |
