The next day, and the next, andthe next, he was early and late atthe edge of the stream at workwith his osiers. It is a good jobto get rid of him for a bit, for hesalways in the way. At last, without having said any-thing about it to anybody, Jem hadmade himself, by extreme patience B 10 LAME JEMMY,

Very early in the morning did he arise, and with a heart beating with joy did he depart for L , with his baskets slung across his back. Itwas well for Jem that he was soonovertaken by Thomas Lister thefarmer, with his cart; for it wouldnot have been possible that he could have got to L on his crutches, with all his baskets at hisback. Why, Jemmy, art going totown, lad? (( Ay, Sir, said Jemmy. ^Why, bless thee, lad! thoultnever do that on thy wooden stumps,I reckon? Come, get up into thcart.
