Late Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Incomplete and abraded Late Saxon copper alloy buckle with integral plate. Of the frame only the stumps of the sides remain. The rectangular plate is slightly narrower than the frame and is either rebated for the strap or possibly split. If the latter, then one face is missing. There are two iron rivets near the insdie edge. Cf. an example from St Michael South Elmham, Suffolk (NMS-352938). Length more than 21mm. Width of frame 12.5mm. Plate 10mm. 10th - 11th century.
