Title
late Early Medieval buckle
Description
English: Early Medieval cast copper alloy buckle fragment, dating from the late 10th to 11th century. This incomplete D shaped buckle is missing the frame terminals and the strap bar, both breaks are old and worn. The frame probably terminated in two animal heads. The expanded outer edge of the frame is sub-triangular, with an extremely worn incised design, most likely a knot or zoomorphic design of ringerike style. The reverse of the buckle is plain and undecorated. The buckle has a red-brown patina and a very worn surface. It is 22.39mm long, 26.95mm wide and 2.43mm thick.
