English: Late Saxon copper alloy buckle frame, oval with flat angled section, projecting waisted double knop at centre of outside edge, integral trapezoidal plate with engraved Ringerike-style foliate decoration that curves outward at junction with frame onto single lobe on both sides, circular perforation for missing pin and two rivet-holes in horizontal line. Plate recessed on reverse from perforation for pin to attachment edge, 48 x 23mm. 11th century. |
