A favorite feature of ours at this park was Lava River Cave. When the volcano was active, a mile-long river of lava flowed downhill. The outside cooled before the inside which kept moving, and finally emptied out the far end. This formed a tube. We have seen, and been in other lava tubes, but never one this long or so high and wide inside.

This picture is of the entrance. It was in the mid-eighties, and quite uncomfortable in the sun. As we walked up to the entrance of the cave we were greeted by Mother Natures own air conditioning. The average internal temperature in the cave is 42 degrees and this cold air was blowing in our faces. As we went inside, we could see our breath.
