XXVIII: « En ce temps-là, Gand, la noble, refusa de payer sa quote-part de l'aide que lui demandait son fils Charles, empereur. Elle ne le pouvait, étant, du fait de Charles, épuisée d'argent. Ce fut un grand crime; il résolut de l'aller lui-même châtier. ... Puis il regarda Roelandt, la belle cloche, fit pendre à son battant celui qui avait sonné l'alarme pour appeler la ville à défendre son droit. »
