Title
leaf arrowhead (profile)
Description
English: Flint leaf-shaped arrowhead, kite-shaped in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and section. The dorsal and ventral faces are both invasively retouched throughout, symmetrically from the margins to the midline, though the scars are larger on the ventral face. There is a slight nick in the proximal end of the arrowhead, and this point is slightly off-set, suggesting that this would have been the end that was hafted to the arrow shaft. This damage may have been caused during use, when the arrowhead was forced off the shaft in the past.

The flint is a mottled grey-brown in colour, which suggests that it is probably derived from a local beach pebble.

Bond (2004) illustrates as similar kite-shaped arrowheads on pages 123 & 133, Figs.5.107 & 5.119, Type 3A, Letter k & No.F29, which are both dated from the Earlier Neolithic.

Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar kite-shaped arrowhead from Carn Brea in Cornwall on page 123, Fig.53, No.L54, which is dated from the Earlier Neolithic.

Keene (1999) illustrates a similar kite-shaped arrowhead from Warkleigh in Devon on page 64, Fig.3, No.31, which is dated from the Earlier Neolithic.
