He wasacquainted with the great principles of the Eng-lish common law, and if he was not familiar withthe waves and tides of legal authority, he wasstill well grounded in all the fundamentals of hisprofession, and it would be absurd to deny himrecognition as a lawyer merely because he neverhad had a case in the United States SupremeCourt.
