Summary edit

Description
English: Men of the Army Service Corps loading supplies from a shed into a train. The supplies include crates of biscuits, sacks of dried peas and boxes of tinned Ideal milk. The official daily ration included either 8oz (225 grammes) of fresh vegetable or 2oz (56 grammes) of dried, but with long slow supply lines, tinned or dried food was more practical.

The photographer is not known but this may be one of a series of images entitled, 'How Tommy is fed', which are attributed to John Warwick Brooke. One man, standing near the door, had clearly moved his head, creating a 'ghost' effect. This is a reminder of how slow many exposures were at this stage.
