Description |
English: An abraded and rolled flint handaxe of probable Lower Palaeolithic date. It is oval in form, pointed oval in section, struck from a grey flint with grey/white patination and some orange/brown iron staining, retaining a small amount of cortex at the striking platform. The surfaces have bifacial flake removal and very abraded edges resultant from post-depositional damage and glacial rolling. It measures 81.93mm in length, 72.81mm in width, 26.97mm in thickness and 197.88g in weight. this handaxe is of Lower Palaeolithic date, c.500,000-40,000 BC. |
