estion, Mr. Koch con-tended for a less extended form of service than that whichwas used by the Swedes, as the Germans were accustomedto a much simpler order of worship. The reason givenwas that if a union is to be formed minor matters must becompromised. Tranberg weakened and failed to supportMr. Koch as he had promised. Naesman contended thatthe Swedish regulations should be adopted, as the Swedeshad been in the country the longest. He felt, too, thatno other course would satisfy the home authorities.Thus no conclusion could be reached. Mr. Koch was sodisappointed that he made many grievous mistakes afterthis in his dealings with his church and pastor. In spiteof the unsuccessful outcome of the meeting, it was a greatconference. A failure it was indeed for the Swedes, butfor the Germans it was far different, for out of defeatdeveloped four years later the organization of the Motherof Synods, the Ministerium of Pennsylvania.
