Abstract: Caricature of three women, a Miss Gunning, her mother, and aunt, involved in a well-publicized, late 18th century failed attempt to marry Miss Gunning to the Marquis of Blanford, son of the Duke of Marlborough. The scene takes place in Miss Gunning's bedroom. Miss Gunning lies ill in bed, her mother seated next to her bed. The mother grimaces at the terrific appearance of the aunt, who stands in a nightcap and extends her arms.
