English: An architectural competition for the design of a new port passenger lounge in Karaköy, was launched in 1935 by the Marine Managements of Turkey. The jury determined three winners and four runners-up and then asked all seven architectural practices to develop a new project. In 1937, Rebii Gorbon, one of the finalists, proposed a new building that appeared to be quite different from the other projects despite being inspired by them in its detailing. The project was approved and built in the 1940s. The building, also comprising the Liman Restaurant is still providing service today.

Denizcilik İşletmeleri 1935’te, Karaköy’deki Liman Yolcu Karşılama Tesisleri’nin inşasına yönelik olarak bir yarışma düzenledi. Jüri, üç birinci ve dört ikinci olmak üzere yedi finalist belirleyerek bu mimarlardan yeni proje geliştirmelerini istedi. Finalistlerden Rebii Gorbon 1937’de, ilk bakışta diğerlerine benzemeyen ancak fikir ve detay anlamında bunlardan beslenen bir bina tasarladı. 1940’larda inşa edilen ve Liman Lokantası’nı da barındıran bu bina hâlen aynı işlevle kullanılmaktadır.
