Notes British War Medal, WW1 awarded to Seaman George William Perks, WW1 engraved on edge- GEORGE PERKS Born in Liverpool on 17.3.1899, George Perks was living in New Zealand in 1917 when he first enlisted with the Merchant Navy at the age of 15 years. He served a total of at least four years on New Zealand vessels between 1917 and 1922. His discharge certificates show that he was initially employed on HS Maheno as a Brass Boy from 12 January 1917 to 19 May 1917, having enlisted from Auckland at the age of 15 years.
