English: Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-58 with two bars Medal awarded to Corporal D Alderton, 1st Battalion, 5th (Northumberland Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot. silver medal; two bars; cusped swivel suspension bar; with ribbon and brooch bar obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with the legend VICTORIA REGINA reverse- a standing helmeted figure of Britannia holding a wreath in her outstretched right hand and over her left arm is the Union Shield; behind her is the British Lion and above the word INDIA; in the exergue are the two dates 1857-1858 ribbon- white with two 6mm scarlet stripes bars- DEFENCE OF LUCKNOW - LUCKNOW named on edge- CORPL D.ALDERTON. 1ST BATN 5TH FUSRS markings- obverse- medallist's name below VR shoulder reverse- medallist's name below lion's hind paw- L.C. WYON

Notes India Mutiny Medal 1857-58 Medal awarded to Corporal D Alderton, 1st Battalion, 5th (Northumberland Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot. two bars- Defence of Lucknow- 29th June – 22nd November, 1857- Corporal Alderton's Battalion was part of the Relief Force under Sir Henry Havelock. Lucknow- November 1857-March 1858- bar awarded to troops who took part in the final operations which resulted in the capture of the city.
