Description
English: Royal Red Cross 1st Class (RRC) Medal awarded to Major Ailleen Taylor, QARNNS, WW2 golden cross, 35 mm width, plain ring suspension, with ribbon Obverse- enamelled red, with broad silver edges around the enamel, a circular medallion bearing effigy of King George V. The words "Faith", "Hope" and "Charity" are inscribed on the upper limbs of the cross, with the year "1883" in the lower limb. Reverse- plain except a circular medallion bearing the Royal Cypher of George V, engraved in lower limb- 1944 ribbon- 28mm wide grosgrain, dark blue with crimson edge stripes

Notes Royal Red Cross 1st Class (RRC) (GVI-GRI) Major Ailleen Marjory (Pat) Taylor, RRC, Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service, WW2 Ailleen Marjory Taylor (1895-1985), known as Pat, undertook her initial training at the New Plymouth Hospital, followed by further training in the UK in the mid-1920s. During WW2 Ailleen rose to the position of Matron. She served on HM Hospital Ship Vita (1943) and at the Royal Naval Auxiliary Auxiliary Hospital at Divatalawa (1944). While serving in Divitalawa she was awarded the Royal Red Cross (1st Class). Ailleen Taylor retired from the QARNNS in 1952, and the same year registered as a General Nurse in Queensland, Australia, but later returned to New Zealand.
