Notes | New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF) Masonic Association Membership badge, WW1 This badge belonged to 4-1846 Sapper Alfred Springall who died of a gunshot wound to the head on 26th August 1918. He is buried at Queens Cemetery, Bucquoy. The previous year Alfred Springall was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry during the Battle of Passchendaele. The New Zealand Expeditionary Force Masonic Association was founded in France, 1917 by Col. George Barclay. The Masonic jewel worn by members was available in three grades- metal, silver gilt and gold. Another smaller association was formed in Egypt-Palestine by Brig. Gen. William Meldrum, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Mounted Division. The Masonic jewel for members of this association was carved in mother-of-pearl. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
