Title |
Medieval - Post Medieval apothecaries weight |
||
Description |
English: Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead apothecaries weight. The weight is rectangular with a raised W on one side. It is 14.6mm by 12.6mm by 3.8mm thick; it weighs 5.05 grams. If it has lost weight due to corrosion this may correspond to 5 scipulum (5.7 grams) or 3 dram (5.31 grams).
Withers and Withers (1995:65) illustrate a similar weight and suggest it is an apothecaries weight. Biggs (1992:7) discusses these weights in more detail and suggests a 15th to 16th century date. |
