Title
Medieval Bull
Description
English: Medieval lead papal bulla of Innocent IV (1243-54) worn and now slightly dished on the obverse, having been hit at its centre, a slightly circular indentation remaining. The lettering is worn and difficult to make out, but sufficiently clear to read INNO/CENTIVS/PP·IIII. While areas of well-patinated surface remain these are the exception, and the majority obverse and reverse is now corroded. The reverse is worn, the SPA·SPE being just legible and St Peter's head being slightly damaged. The reverse is sealed at approximately 350° to the obverse but this is difficult to measure accurately because of the degree of wear.

Diameter 38mm. Thickness 4.2mm. Weight 43.275g.

This is the tenth bulla of Innocent IV to have been recorded from the area of the medieval Diocese of Norwich, making it one of the more common types.
