Title
Medieval Oval Buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy oval buckle frame with ornate outer edge, offset bar and folded sheet plate. The outside edge has a rounded slight knop at each end and six moulded transverse ridges accross it. The plate is recessed for the bar. The rear strip is undecorated and tapers to the distal end. There is a rectangular hole for the pin. The front strip of the plate has incised decoration. Each long edge has two incised parallell lines framing incised letters or symbols. The plate was attatched with two dome- headed rivets at the distal end. The pin is cast and tapers to a point. It has a transverse ridge with a small projection either end at the attachment point. It is bent. There is corrosion and edge damage to the plate, mostly at the distal end.
