Medieval Single Loop Buckle
Description
English: An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy single loop buckle, c. 1250-1400 AD. The remains of the buckle consist of a sub-triangular buckle frame with a narrowed and offset strap bar, which is now broken. The pin and any additional elements are now missing, in addition to most of the narrowed strap bar. The buckle frame has a sub-rectangular wide notch for the pin and is engraved with a zig-zag decorated along the interior edge of the frame and on either side of the pin rest. The reverse surface is flat and undecorated, but shows traces of filing. The buckle is of an even deep green patina. It measures 38 mm long and would have been approximately 18.5 mm wide; the remains of the outer edge are a maximum of 9.4 mm wide; 2.4 mm overall thickness; the buckle weighs 3.6 grams. Cf.
