Title
Medieval buckle: Single loop buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy single looped buckle and plate dating to the medieval period. The buckle is broadly D-shaped in plan with a narrowed and offset strap bar. The buckle frame has lattice decoration on the front of the curved outer lip, the reverse is plain. The strap bar retains the plate but the pin is missing. The plate is formed by a single sheet of copper alloy, looped over the strap bar and being thinner on one side. The strap was held in place by one large iron rivet, which is retained. The plate is undecorated. This is a small example of a buckle current throughout the medieval period, c. AD 1250-1500.
