Title
Medieval buckle: Single looped buckle
Description
English: A worn and incomplete copper alloy buckle with buckle plate dating to the medieval period. The buckle is incomplete but was of a single-looped type with narrowed but integral recessed strap bar and an ornate outer edge. The buckle plate is formed from one sheet of copper alloy that is looped over the strap bar of the buckle; it is undecorated. One rivet (extant) would have secured the plate to the strap. The copper pin of the buckle is intact. This style of buckle and plate dates from c. AD 1250-1400.
