Title
Medieval cast copper alloy single loop buckle frame
Description
English: Medieval cast copper alloy single oval buckle frame. The frame is oval in cross section with a widened and thickened outer edge and a narrowed and offset strap bar with lobed knops to either end. The frame is 24.2mm long and 17.0mm wide and is a maximum of 3.4mm thick. It weighs 2.51 grams. The buckle surface is a uniform red colour with areas of bright green patina. A similar example is illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991), p.70, fig. 42, ref. 271. They suggest this is a long lived form dating from the mid 12th century to the turn of the 15th century.
